Flying your drone by foreground makes for a more dynamic shot— and who doesn’t love that? However, to achieve this, you may need to heed a few tips:

  • Fly CLOSE but fly SAFE— if you trust your ability as a drone pilot, then go ahead and deactivate the obstacle sensors. These measures were put in place for safety purposes, and rightly so, but they also make it impossible to achieve a shot like the one above.
  • Move THROUGH your world— once you’ve disengaged your obstacle sensors, make use of your newfound freedom and pilot your drone through the environment. Between trees, over sun chairs, under bridges, the world is your oyster when your competence meets your imagination.
  • Remember to REACTIVATE your obstacle sensors— you’ve got your shot and it looks awesome, congrats! But don’t let excitement wipe this crucial step from your mind: reactivate the obstacle sensors for your safety and the safety of others. If you don’t perform this step the moment your drone lands, you’ll almost definitely forget it later.
